The History 
By 2002 grappling and MMA had grown significantly since exploding onto the scene nearly a decade earlier. However, fight wear for these sports had advanced very little. The only shorts available at the time were still the tight spandex variety.
We searched for alternatives to tight shorts but could not find the perfect solution. Board shorts were a tempting option but the low cut nature of that style of shorts did not offer acceptable waist fit and security for grapplers. Also, the tie on the outside would often come undone and pockets added extra weight and handles for the opponent. Basketball shorts were overly baggy and got tangled in guard work.
So we sought to design something new and in May 2002 SPRAWL® was born with the introduction of the First Loose Fit Short Designed for Grappling™. We created shorts out of our own desire for an alternative to wearing Lycra spandex fight shorts. The introduction of SPRAWL® Shorts met with significant industry acclaim.
The Evolution 
Originally designed to meet the tough demands of grappling SPRAWL® shorts quickly became popular among MMA fighters. The result of our efforts, first hand training experience and input from world class fighters has been the sport’s most advanced gear that functions without sacrificing design.
The Original SPRAWL® Loose-Fit Short contained features such as our unique Cross-Side Waistband with a Velcro closure and internal draw cord. Because the center of the waist often becomes a 'contact point' in positions such as the mount, guard, rear mount or when performing an arm lock the smooth waistline of SPRAWL® shorts reduced the likelihood your gear will to get 'caught up' while in action. Additionally, we eliminated all outside pockets to remove handles for opponents and potential injury causing snags.
We followed up our original design with other releases such as our Cross Trainer (XT), FlexFighter®, and V-Flex™, editions. All of these products had innovations which we were the first to introduce to the fight world such as the split side seam in the XT model, the Super-Stretch Flex Panel inseam in the FlexFighter, and the variable stretch technology in the V-Flex series.
The SPRAWL Fusion was our 6th generation fight short and was designed to fit securely where needed, yet allow unrestricted body movement when training or competing. This SPRAWL short is comprised of the most advanced fabrics and technology and has a number of features that enhance fighter performance such as our new Channel Lock™ waistband—the first non-slip waistband that allows a full size range of adjustability. Our new Channel Lock™ system prevents the short from shifting during the most intense training sessions and matches, and will also allow you the freedom to rehydrate after a weight cut without worrying about your shorts not fitting. We have also streamlined the fit of this short to better conform to the athletes body while our lightweight 4-way stretch fabric provides unparalleled comfort, flexibility and durability.

New features include a wider waistband for added comfort and stability, a repositioned side slit to reduce 'ride-up" when working from the guard and heavier construction for a new industry standard in durability.
